Their most recent work together, Poor Things, is now in theatres (or soon will be in the UK) and looks like it will get a lot of Oscar nods. But if you want to watch more deeply funny dramas, Netflix is one of the best streaming services you can use.
That’s because on January 23, the service will add The Favourite, which stars the Dreams team we just talked about. Three great women—Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz, and Olivia Coleman—were all nominated for Oscars for their roles in this 2018 movie. Coleman won the award for best actress.
Coleman plays a sick Queen Anne who is having a hard time with her health. a war with France and probably losing her mind. Weisz, who plays her most dependable assistant, is utilizing her for personal gain. However, there is a struggle for the queen’s love when she falls in love with Stone’s portrayal of Abigail, a destitute scullery maid. Plus, Nicholas Hoult, the leader of the opposition, is set on making as much trouble in parliament as he can. It may sound like a political thriller, but it’s not at all like that.
Instead, I have never seen another movie like The Favourite, at least not one by Yorgos Lnathimos. It’s a great, dark, and dry comedy-drama. Even though it’s stylish, it’s never too much. Other than having your family in the room, I can’t think of a reason not to watch this movie. The fact that this movie has a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes shows that Lanthimos is the master of all things weird. There will be three parts to the story of Emma Stone and Lanthimos. The director has confirmed that his “muse” will also be in his next movie, which will come out after Poor Things.
