Spyglass Says Melissa Barrera Was Fired From ‘Scream’ Due to Rhetoric
Spyglass Media Group recently addressed the speculation surrounding Melissa Barrera’s removal from the cast of “Scream.” Contrary to initial assumptions linking her departure to her support for the Palestinian cause, Spyglass clarified that her posts were interpreted as antisemitic, leading to her dismissal.
In response to queries about dropping Barrera from the horror franchise’s revival, a Spyglass spokesperson stated unequivocally, “We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any Including misinformation related to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion, or any content that overtly ventures into hate speech.
Barrera had been vocal on her Instagram about the conflict following the October 7 Hamas terror attacks and subsequent events. She reshared a post accusing Israel of “genocide and ethnic cleansing” and shared content from Jewish Currents magazine discussing the distortion of the Holocaust to boost the Israeli arms industry. These posts prompted Spyglass to sever ties with the actor, who was set to star in the upcoming installment of the “Scream” series.
Notably, Barrera is no longer working with a publicist, and requests for her response have been made. Filmmaker Christopher Landon, set to direct “Scream VII” after the departure of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, initially commented on Barrera’s exit, expressing his lack of involvement in the decision and emphasizing the unfortunate nature of the situation.
