The Boys' Mexican-Set Spinoff Is Being Worked on at Amazon

It’s possible that “The Boys” will soon be entering Mexico.

Sources claim that Amazon is currently working on a Spanish-language spinoff of their well-liked dark superhero series, which is based on the comic books written by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson and is set in Mexico City. Plot specifics are still unknown.

Similar to “The Boys,” Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios would produce it. Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer is attached to write, according to sources. Most recently, Dunnet-Alcocer penned the script for the Xolo Maridueña-starring DC movie “Blue Beetle.” Through Kripke Enterprises, “The Boys” creator Erik Kripke, Neal H. Moritz, and Pavan Shetty of Original Film, and Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver of Point Grey Pictures will executive produce. Although agreements are still being finalized for the series, sources also claim that Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal will executive produce under their La Corriente del Golfo banner.

The third series, if the project moves forward,

would take place in the universe of “The Boys” outside of the mothership show, which is scheduled to premiere its fourth season in 2024. The first season of “Gen V,” which is based at a superhero college administered by Vought International, debuted recently on Prime Video. After its September 29 premiere, the program was picked up for a second season in October.

The animated anthology series “The Boys Presents:

Diabolical,” which had eight stand-alone stories and many “The Boys” cast members reprising their roles in the voice cast, had previously aired on Prime Video.

Additionally, this would be Amazon’s most recent effort to produce a localized version of one of their streaming shows. These high-budget spy series “Citadel” spinoffs, which will take place in Italy, India, and other locations, are presently being developed by Amazon.

One of the most well-liked Amazon streaming original series to date is “The Boys.” Every time a new episode of the show has aired since its 2019 premiere, it has consistently placed highly on the Nielsen streaming charts. In addition, the program has been nominated for eight Emmys so far, including one for best drama series in 2021.
